The Tel Aviv area contains
a dense grid of freeways. Each junction has a name, which is used
to navigate. This particular junction is the crossing of a major
north-south axis that goes from Jerusalem to Haifa, and an east-west
axis that goes from Tel Aviv into the occupied West Bank. I have
a soft spot for the inherent beauty of ugly places. The lack of any
form of artifice or aesthetic design, the utter placelessness despite
the road crossing's strong geometry, the electrical pylons, all combine
to give this place its particular poetic flavour of misuse.
The picture functions in the same manner as "Winter's Water". |
