The metro carriages are, in a way, substituted objects which replace the material extracted from the entrails of the earth when the tunnels were dug, since they are manufactured from metallic and plastic materials themselves coming from the earth. The interior environment of the carriages is mineral and cold. It contrasts with the soft and multicoloured fabrics of the passengers' apparel (even though these cloths are oftentimes synthetic, thus having their origins underground...). This photographic work is the first to experiment the "gutworks" technique. |
